Hilos | Threads

May 30th-July 20, 2024

Sponsored by

Hilos|Threads explores the interconnectedness of childhood memories, migration, and cross-cultural experiences. In creating this body of work, the artist introduced a collection of transformed materials to support these concepts. The sculptures capture relationships between people and cultures, telling their unique stories. Portraits and headdresses reflect relationships between time, memory, space, and the extension of self. Metal casting and found objects serve as conduits, allowing the artist to transform stories and memories into tangible visual forms. Seams left from the casting process resemble scars, symbolizing the stories embedded in modeled forms, objects and burned surfaces.

An opening reception will be held at Creative York on Thursday, May 30 from 6 to 8pm.
