May Poetry Workshop: Did You Say “Villan”?
Friday, May 12th, from 6-7:30pm
To study a further exploration of forms, we will look at the villanelle and the pantoum, poems whose beauty and meaning depends on “making a beautiful noise” with repetition. After analyzing some examples of the forms, the group will work together to construct their own villanelle and pantoum, and then go on to individual experiments in the form. Again, no worries–we’ve got “cheat sheets” to facilitate the creation of these poems. You do not need to have attended the formal poetry workshop in order to participate in this one.
Carol Clark Williams is poet laureate emerita of York, Pennsylvania, and founder of the “Poetry Spoken Here” readings for the open air Yorkfest arts festival. She is a winner of the NFSPS 2022 Stevens Chapbook Poetry Contest. Williams teaches poetry workshops for high school students, senior centers, support groups, and residents of institutions.
Carol’s poems have been published in print and online journals including Broadkill Review, Welcome to the Resistance, Fledgling Rag, Grasslimb, Mad Poets Review, Margie, Byline, PPS Prize Poems, and Encore. Her latest collection of poetry, Unpacking for the Journey, is available on Amazon or from NFSPS.com
All supplies are included, though you are welcome to bring your own notebook!
