The Gold Star Garden is collaborating with Creative York for a Plein Air event designed to engage artists in this meaningful, public memorial garden. All art mediums (painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, and more) are accepted.
This event is open to ages 16+. Artists are invited to exhibit and sell finished pieces at the Veterans Day Celebration and breakfast on Saturday, November 7, 2026. During the breakfast, veterans will vote on First ($300), Second ($200), and Third ($100) prize winners. The event is free and open to the public.
Artwork will also be on display at Creative York in the Kerlin Gallery from November 11–28, 2026, with an Opening Reception on Wednesday, November 11.
The Gold Star Garden, located at 1000 Vander Avenue in York, is dedicated to all veterans and honors the Pennsylvania service members who lost their lives in the Global War on Terror. It also holds the names of York County’s fallen from World War I to the present.

What time should artists arrive?
Artists should check in at the Creative York table by 9:00 AM and then select a location to set up.
Yes, artists are encouraged to create onsite for the duration of the event, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Artwork does not need to be completed onsite. However, to be included in the exhibition and considered for prizes, finished pieces must be dropped off prior to Wednesday, November 11.
Artists are responsible for bringing all of their own supplies. Water will NOT be available onsite.
Yes, artwork must not exceed 36″ x 36″.
Bathrooms are available across the street at the Ice Rink. Please note that sinks should not be used to clean art supplies.
Yes, there is plenty of parking available onsite.
All art mediums are welcome, including painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, and more.
Yes, artists are welcome to offer their artwork for sale, but it is not required.
Gold Star Garden will provide a lunch option for participating artists.
All are welcome to attend the Veterans Day Breakfast at the York Fairgrounds in Memorial Hall West, as well as the Opening Gallery Reception at Creative York.
