Dara Lorenzo: In the Thick
In the Thick is a continuation of the artist’s investigation into self-discovery and connections within the currents of our human race. This work connects memories, sentimentalism, expressions of empathy and self-reflection through printmaking.
The work ponders over a lifetime of collected images in spaces revisited and in her current situations. The presence of an obsession with understanding one’s existence through the artist’s perspective is conveyed through a multi-layered printmaking process including photogravure, monotype and chin-coll’e.
Lorenzo scrap-books and compiles photo albums of a personal diary dialogue through the printing press with old personal notes and torn pages of her own book collection. The text in the art reveals hard truths about self-doubt, embarrassment and anxieties experienced by the artist referencing what it is to be alive.
