Introducing the Writer's Eye Juror for 2026
Noel Sloboda
Noel Sloboda earned his Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis. His dissertation about Edith Wharton and Gertrude Stein became a book. He sat on the board of directors for the Gamut Theatre Group for a decade while serving as dramaturg for its nationally recognized Shakespeare company. His writing about Shakespeare has appeared in The Journal of the Wooden O, Shakespeare Bulletin, The Shakespeare Newsletter, Early Modern Literary Studies, and elsewhere. Sloboda has published two collections of original poetry, eight chapbooks, as well as hundreds of poems in journals and magazines from around the world. Last year (2025), he received an Award for Excellence as part of the 36th ITO EN Haiku Contest in Japan. Currently a Professor of English and Creative Writing at Penn State Schuylkill, Sloboda is also an Alumni Teaching Fellow and a General Education Scholar within Pennsylvania State University.
