ArtWorks!
Creative York, in partnership with the York County Juvenile Probation Department, has designed an expressive arts program called ArtWorks. Involvement in the arts can provide the tools for troubled youth to define and express themselves creatively rather than violently. Creative York has been collaborating with the York County Probation Office for the past 17 years to provide this 10-week program for teens who must complete community service hours.
Important life skills such as goal setting, problem solving, group cooperation, positive decision-making, and self-critiquing are emphasized during the ArtWorks program. The intention of ArtWorks is not only to teach life skills and encourage creative thinking, but also to increase self-esteem.
The objectives of ArtWorks include:
- Increasing life skills knowledge
- Enhancing arts education & cultivating creativity
- Showing positive alternatives of self-expression
