Kathrin Winter

Kathrin Winter was born in former East Germany in 1973. From 1989 through 1992, she completed an Apprenticeship to become a Potter which she completed at the Pottery Studio “Toepferei Dambeck” by Christiane Gregorowius in Mecklenburg, Vorpommern. She graduated from the higher Education School “Berufsschule Naumburg”, Germany and earned her Ceramic Degree in Wheel Throwing in August 1992. Kathrin discontinued working as a professional potter in 1992 due to an unfortunate medical problem at that time.  But she continued wheel throwing as a hobby and as a counselor in Christ Camp, Germany running the pottery studio during a summer camp. She also obtained a 3-year degree in 1995 as Administrative Assistant and become later in Fall of 1996 an Au Pair in York, Pa, USA where she attended a community bilingual class at Duke Street, York, Pa to further her English skills. Kathrin met her husband and immigrated to the USA in 1998. For several years she work in her husband ant’s home pottery studio and learned about some build up ceramic with slabs as she continued throwing pots on the wheel and developing individual pieces and ideas.

Furthermore, she graduated in 2011 with an AS degree from Penn State University for Occupational Therapy. She furthered her studies in auditory/sensory processing treatments and loved the idea to incorporate art with her treatments. During Covid-19 Pandemic, she started a private Facebook Group “Kathrin’s Art made with Love” in which she explains experiments with pour painting incorporating various techniques to create pictures and also ceramic techniques. Since July of 2021, Kathrin has been teaching skilled wheel throwing at the York Town Craft Guild. She loves teaching and is looking forward to give more opportunities to all.
