April Poetry Workshop: All Dressed Up: Formal Poetry
Friday, April 14th from 6-7:30pm
Carol Clark Williams, Pushcart Prize nominee and winner of the NSPS Stevens Book Award and the Westmoreland Award for poetry, will be teaching a workshop on formal poetry. Students will do a thumbnail exploration of meter and rhyme and types of sonnets, and then work as a group to construct a Shakespearean sonnet, analyzing examples and utilizing “cheat sheets“; From there we’ll go on the individual creations of the form.
Carol Clark Williams is poet laureate emerita of York, Pennsylvania, and founder of the “Poetry Spoken Here” readings for the open air Yorkfest arts festival. She is a winner of the NFSPS 2022 Stevens Chapbook Poetry Contest. Williams teaches poetry workshops for high school students, senior centers, support groups, and residents of institutions.
